Semi driver arrested for vehicle homicide after striking pickup on I-80

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) troopers arrested a semi-truck driver after someone was killed in a crash this morning.

Around 5:30 a.m. this morning, troopers and Lincoln County deputies were dispatched that occurred on Interstate 80 (I-80), around mile marker 159.

According to NSP, preliminary investigation showed that a Nissan Frontier pickup was parked on the shoulder of I-80. While it was there, it was struck by a semi that had crossed onto the shoulder.

There were three occupants of the Nissan and all were transported to the hospital. One of the passengers, an adult female, was pronounced dead at the hospital. A juvenile passenger has been flown to Omaha for treatment of serious injuries. The driver has been treated and released.

After preliminary investigation, the driver of the semi was identified as Fayzali Sharipov, 35, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Sharipov was arrested for motor vehicle homicide and lodged in Lincoln County Jail.

NSP said they are conducting a full crash reconstruction investigation.
