Sen. Pete Ricketts joins with support for the Protect College Sports Act

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Sen. Pete Ricketts announced his support for the Protect College Sports Act.

The legislation aims to end the disorder surrounding college athletics. It would establish nationwide standards for name, image and likeness (NIL), transfers, eligibility and enforcement.

“The Protect College Sports Act is a good step forward for athletics,” said Ricketts. “This bipartisan bill addresses issues that were causing chaos in college sports, like eligibility requirements and NIL. These improvements will better support student athletes while preserving the tradition of college sports.”

The bill targets many college athletic topics including the transfer portal, guaranteeing student athletes one transfer without losing eligibility. Along with that, it would enforce recruiting and tampering rules, preempts state law relating to NIL compensation and aims to replace multiple systems.
