Senator Kate Bolz announces campaign for Congress against Jeff Fortenberry
Democratic Senator Kate Bolz announced her candidacy for the First Congressional District Thursday in a ceremony at the Telegraph District in downtown Lincoln.
“Washington just isn’t getting the job done for Nebraska, and if were going to change what we get out of Washington, we need to change who we send to Washington,” Bolz says during her announcement.
Bolz has represented the south–central Lincoln district in the legislature since 2013. Along with her candidacy, she announced a ‘listening tour’ to kick off her campaign beginning next month. She says she wants to bring common sense, integrity and collaboration to to Washington D.C., with her top priorities being trade and health care.
“I’ll take on the drug and pharmaceutical companies that have helped to fund congressman Fortenberry’s campaigns to lower the cost of prescription drugs, and I’ll stand up for farmers rural communities and businesses across Nebraska impacted by the trade war.”
Fortenberry responded to Bolz’ announcement Thursday as well.
“It’s my obligation to work hard for the things that are noble good and just for the well being of America and to serve Nebraska constituents. Nebraska is my home, I live in Lincoln, we work very hard with a very good staff to get both of those things but elections determine those outcomes and that happens every two years,” Fortenberry says.
Fortenberry has served in the First Congressional District for 8 terms.
