Authorities say a Gage County man suffered serious injuries after his motorcycle struck a deer.

Emergency crews were called Wednesday to the accident scene on E. Lilac Rd. west of S. 108th Rd.

Gage County Sheriff’s Office says investigators believe the driver, identified as 56-year-old Jeff Shew, of Beatrice, was headed west on E. Lilac Rd. when he hit the deer that was in his lane.

Shew’s motorcycle then entered a ditch, passed through a plum thicket and eventually came to rest on the slope of the ditch, authorities said.

Shew was taken by air ambulance to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln for serious injuries, according to GCSO. He was wearing a helmet.
