The Gage County Sheriff’s Office said the puppy, a three-month-old black male Lab mix named “Blackbear,” was stolen from a home in the 400 block of Leslie St. on Sunday.

Witnesses identified the suspect who stole the dog, and deputies interviewed the suspect who said the dog was given to new owners.  The suspect refused to share where the dog was currently located, according to GCSO.

If the current possessor of the puppy promptly contacts the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, no criminal charges will be filed.

Deputies issued citations for theft to Kimberly Petersen (age 56) of rural Wymore and Kristin Wilcox (age 55) of Barneston for theft by unlawful taking. Deputies also issued citations to Kristin Wilcox and Todd Wilcox (age 57) for false reporting.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office would remind everyone that if you are concerned for the welfare of an animal, they should contact law enforcement or animal control. Stealing pets is a criminal offense.
