St. Baldrick’s Foundation holds fundraiser at UNL to support children battling cancer

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — People shaved their heads Thursday night at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to support children battling cancer.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation held its annual “Shave for the Brave” event where people could donate, volunteer or shave their heads to raise money to help find cures for children with cancer.

“Tonight is all about raising money for St. Baldrick’s,” said Madison Hurst, who volunteered at the event. “Also, just getting the word out about St. Baldrick’s to the residence hall community, the UNL community, and getting specifically our residence hall members engaged.”

The inaugural event was hosted in 2000, where $104,000 was raised by 19 shaved heads.

Thanks to nationwide events, St. Baldrick’s has been able to donate over $325 million for cancer research.
