LINCOLN. Neb. (KLKN) – It’s time to trot like it’s hot at the YMCA of Lincoln’s 14th annual Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving Day.

This year’s family-friendly race was held on Nov. 24 at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Participants had the option to participate in person or virtually in either a 5K race or 1-mile fun run/walk.

Early registration was available online through Sunday, but participants can register as late as Thursday morning.

“We’re thrilled to once again host what has become a Thanksgiving family tradition through the years,” Karla Hudson, associate executive director of the Cooper YMCA, said in a press release. “This race is about so much more than burning calories before a big meal — it’s an opportunity to bring the community together, to give thanks, and to raise money so more families can experience the Y.”

Proceeds from the Turkey Trot will go toward the organization’s annual fundraising campaign Strong Kids.  The campaign offers financial assistance to families who would otherwise be unable to pay for gym memberships, programs, sports and camp fees.

This year’s registration fee is $17 a person for the 1-mile fun run/walk and $32 a person for the 5K.  Families of five can also register to participate in the fun run/walk in person or virtually.

Participants who register prior to Sunday will also receive a 2022 YMCA Turkey Trot T-shirt.
