Authorities have arrested a Lincoln man wanted in connection to a shooting in Grand Island.

The Nebraska State Patrol said 33-year-old Antoine Johnson was taken into custody on Interstate 80 between Aurora and Henderson Thursday night.

Grand Island police say Johnson shot 31-year-old Gary Zierke III, of Lincoln, in the head early Thursday morning. Zierke was flown to an Omaha hospital and at last check was in critical condition, GIPD said.

The early morning shooting prompted an 18-hour manhunt for Johnson, who reportedly fled when the vehicle he was in was stopped by authorities. He found hiding in a ditch about a mile south of the interstate.

Johnson has been transported to Hall County Jail. He faces charges of attempt of a class one felony, use of a firearm to commit a felony, first-degree assault and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

The shooting remains under investigation.
