Suspect arrested following homicide, standoff in Broken Bow Saturday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KLKN) – The stepson of the victim was arrested Saturday following a homicide and standoff in Broken Bow, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Troopers said 44-year-old Trenton Esch was arrested after a brief standoff with authorities and killing his stepmother, 66-year-old Crystal Esch, in rural Custer County.

Autrhorities said the Custer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting around 6:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, that occurred in the 8000 block of Round Valley Road, just north of Broken Bow.

Deputies believed Trenton Esch fled to his own residence at 208 South N. Street in Broken Bow where NSP SWAT team responded. At approximately, 9:40 p.m., Esch exited the home voluntarily and was taken into custody without further incident.

Esch is lodged in the Custer County Jail. The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation.
