Tecumseh prison inmate dies at local hospital

TECUMSEH, Neb. (KLKN) — On Sept. 24, an inmate at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution died at a local hospital.

Michael McGuire, 77, was incarcerated from Aug. 26, 1983. His cause of death is unknown.

McGuire was serving a 235-year and 18-month to 463-year sentence. He was charged with first-degree sexual assault, robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, escape, assault on a peace officer/Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employee, use of a firearm to commit a felony, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm by a fugitive/felon.

Whenever an inmate dies in the custody of NDCS, a grand jury must conduct an investigation.
