Temperatures falling on Tuesday; Snow showers possible

Monday brought forth all types of precipitation to the state, with rain in the east, snow in the west, and freezing rain in between. As of early Tuesday, most of the precipitation has drifted north of I-80.

Southeast Nebraska will be in a bit of a lull precipitation-wise on Tuesday morning. However, there is still plenty of moisture in the low levels resulting in fog, mist, and drizzle in many areas. That, coupled with temperatures near freezing could result in freezing fog, mist, and drizzle. These are visibilities as of 7 a.m. Tuesday.

7am Visibilities

So while southeast Nebraska saw less frozen precipitation on Monday and Monday night, this could cause issues in and of itself.

Colder air continues to spill into the area on Tuesday, resulting in high temperatures occurring in the morning. Temperatures should be in the middle-30s initially in Lincoln but will fall into the 20s by late afternoon.

Hour-by-Hour Temperatures

We’ll also be keeping the cloud cover as well. Precipitation should be a lot less widespread. While some areas of light freezing rain or rain can’t be ruled out on Tuesday morning, we should eventually be cold enough to support snow. Several versions of Stormcast show a few snow showers moving through, and we won’t rule those out in Lincoln during the late morning and afternoon.

Stormcast Tuesday Morning

As far as additional snow accumulations past 6 a.m. Tuesday are concerned, we don’t expect a whole lot south of I-80. For areas able to see snow showers in southern Nebraska, accumulations should be under 1″ (if any). More significant accumulation is possible in northern Nebraska on Tuesday.

Stormcast Snow Accumulation Through Wednesday

We keep mostly cloudy skies on Wednesday, and a flurry or two can’t be ruled out. That said, the overall snow chances look lower on Wednesday. By Thursday, we’ll be done with this storm system and temperatures will embark upon a warming trend. On Friday, highs should be back in the 40s.
