The heat is on; Heat Advisories for Tuesday
It is this time of year I hear the song “The Heat is On” by Glenn Fry in my head. The heat is on today. Temperatures will reach the 90°s for the 34th day this year. It will be very humid – or “muggly” – sending the heat index in to the triple digits for most in southeast Nebraska. Get used to it because the heat is going to stick around for the foreseable future.
Southeast Nebraska should have mainly sunny skies today. Highs will be in the middle 90°s. Dew point temperatures, the measure of the moisture in the air, will be in the low 70°s making it feel like it is in the upper 90°s to lower 100°s.
There will be a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday evening, mainly north and northwest of Lincoln. The window for rain will be between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. They will likely fizzle out before reaching I-80.
Temperatures go even higher Tuesday. The mercury should top out around 100°. Humidity will be relatively high, sending the heat index to 100° to 107° by late Tuesday afternoon. Because of this, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for all counties in southeast Nebraska. The advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
