Three crashes caused by disconnected trailer, investigation ongoing

GRETNA, Neb. (KLKN) — Early Saturday morning, a pick-up truck had been pulling a trailer that disconnected, causing three accidents.

It happened just after five o’clock as the maroon truck drove eastbound on I-80 at Mile Marker 436, just southeast of Gretna.

According to the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, the truck had a flat tire, which caused the trailer to detach. It contained about forty, 20′ hollow metal tubes that scattered across the interstate.

Trying to avoid the debris, three other vehicles ended up crashing. One of the vehicles was a semi-tractor and trailer that flipped on its side during the accident.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Eastbound traffic on the section of I-80 was temporarily closed but should now be reopened to all traffic.

The maroon truck abandoned the scene and authorities are still looking to identify them.

If you have any information concerning the truck or its driver, call the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office at (402) 593-2288.
