Thursday Evening Weather Update; October 8, 2020

TONIGHT: Mostly clear skies.  There will be some haze hanging in the sky due to smoke from wildfires in Wyoming and Colorado.  The smoke will also make for another “orange” sunrise Friday morning.  Temperatures will be mild overnight with lows dropping to the upper 50°s to lower 60°s.  Lincoln Low Temperature: 60°

FRIDAY:  Mainly sunny and warm.  Some areas will be nearing record high temperature territory.  Highs will be in the upper 80°s to lower 90°s.  Winds will be out of the south-southwest 7-15 mph with gusts to 30 mph.  Lincoln High Temperature: 89°

The record high temperature for Friday, October 9 is 90° in Lincoln.  90° has been reached two previous years – 1928 and 1921.

The chance for rain is increasing for eastern Nebraska.  The much discussed cold front will be arriving in the state Sunday.  Ahead of the front, temperatures are forecast to climb to the middle/upper 80°s.  There will also be a slight uptick in humidity, meaning there will be a bit more moisture at the surface.  Combine all three ingredients and we have a chance for showers and thunderstorms developing Sunday evening through early Monday morning.  Stay tuned…
