Tickborne viruses detected by DHHS in Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced recent detections of Heartland (HRTV) and Bourbon (BRBV) viruses in Nebraska.
The viruses were found in tick collections that DHHS tested.
HRTV and BRBV can cause fevers and, in some cases, severe illness.
According to DHHS, Nebraska residents can reduce their risk by wearing long clothing, avoiding areas with tall grass and check your body, clothing, children and pets for ticks after spending time outdoors.
