TikTok trend turns destructive, four local homes vandalized
Four homes fall victim to vandalism
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – What started as a trending TikTok prank turned destructive for four Lincoln homes this weekend.
A TikTok trend started innocently, teens knocking on doors in dorms and running away, turned into something more destructive this weekend when several homes had their doors kicked in.
Saturday night around 11 p.m., the Lincoln Police Department received four calls about vandalism within a two-mile radius in the area of 84th and A streets, all of which reported banging and kicking doors.
A neighbor even said a carton of egg nog was thrown at her window.
One victim recalled watching TV with his family when he thought he heard a firework in the street. When the banging happened again, he came to find his front door kicked in, glass door shattered, and saw a group of people speeding away.
With shattered glass and doors knocked off of its hinges, Lincoln community members are still looking for answers.
The trend is not new but has seemed to escalate over the past month internationally, with reports of damages surfacing all across Europe.
Lincoln Police say all the victims reported seeing a dark-colored Sedan leaving the scene.
LPD is still working to examine security footage from neighbors and want parents to warn their children against participating in the challenge, as it could result in vandalism charges.
