Tom Osborne talks TeamMates program, helping students achieve goals
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Before the first Husker home game of the season, TeamMates honored its high school graduates and scholarship recipients.
Throughout the years, TeamMates has been able to award $6.6 million in scholarships.
Tom Osborne and his wife, Nancy, started the mentorship program in 1991.
Over the years, the program has helped students like Zaria Lott, who has been a mentee in the program for nine years.
She says teammates helped her meet her goal of going to the University of Nebraska.
“It has allowed me to basically accomplish my goals, my biggest dream is to go to school and to get the degree I want to get,” Lott said.
Tom Osborne is proud of all of the students the program has been able to help.
“We have graduated about 98% of our kids from high school,” said Osborne. “We try to get as many as we can on scholarship, but 85% have college plans, so we’re working at it.”
