Trev Alberts says Husker football will end balloon release
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The longstanding tradition of releasing balloons at Husker football games will now end, according to Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts.
On the Huskers’ “Sports Nightly” radio show, Alberts said they will no longer provide balloons at football games.
He said it has been “challenging” to acquire helium for the balloons. The university has now decided to use helium for medical purposes only.
Alberts said the athletic department is working to come up with alternatives to the balloon release.
Last year, UNL’s student government voted to end the Husker balloon release because of its environmental impact.
