A Central City man is sharing the story of his recovery from COVID-19.

Jim Garfield, 69, said fighting the virus took a toll – not just on him, but his family as well.

“They know what could happened and my friends had texted me to, ‘Are you in the hospital? Are you in the hospital? are you on a ventilator becuase they know what can happen”

Garfield says he always thought in the back of his mind what could happen with the virus, but tried to remain positive and continue to do what he could to fight it off.

“Just to get rest,” he said. “That’s about all you can do, is get rest and pray.”

Garfield isolated in his home, away from his wife to keep her safe. He waited for the day he went from “COVID-19 positive” to “recovered.”

“So you feel so badly that when you feel well its not like, ‘I think I feel better, you say I feel better,'” he said.

Garfield says the road to recovery wasn’t just physically difficult, it was mentally trying as well.

“You can’t say its worse but you gotta say it wears on you mentally,” he said.

Despite all the trials, Garfield is now fully recovered. He says he wants his message to not be about those trials, but rather his triumph over them. He encourages everyone to do what they can to stay healthy.
