LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 13-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy from Colorado were arrested Monday night after a high-speed pursuit with troopers near Kearney.

Around 9:30 p.m., a trooper saw a Nissan Pathfinder crawling east at about 35 mph on Interstate 80, just southeast of Kearney.

The trooper then tried to pull the vehicle over, but instead, the driver sped off, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The vehicle eventually reached speeds over 100 mph during the pursuit, the patrol said.

A trooper was able to slow the vehicle with stop sticks before the driver exited I-80 at the Shelton interchange.

Shortly after, a trooper was able to use their car to bring the vehicle to a stop, according to the patrol.

The driver, a 13-year-old girl, and the passenger, an 11-year-old boy, were then taken into custody.

Inside the vehicle, troopers found a gun, a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Both kids were placed in protective custody, the patrol said.
