Two parents arrested after leaving two-year-old and 9-month-old home alone
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating a recent child abuse case.
On Sept. 25, around 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a found child.
The child was nonverbal, wandering the parking lot of an apartment complex near the area of North 24th and T streets. Officers began canvassing the complex in order to find the girl’s parents. LPD used social media to locate the parents.
Around two hours later, Michael Djan, 32, and Gifty Djan, 28, returned home and identified themselves as her parents.
After investigation, officers determined the girl was two years old. She had been left home alone with her 9-month-old brother for about three hours.
According to LPD, the children had been sleeping when the parents went to church and go shopping.
Both parents were arrested and lodged for child abuse. Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services removed the children from the residence.
