Uber now to require passengers to take ‘mask selfie’

Uber recently announced that it will soon require some riders to take ‘mask selfies’ before requesting a ride.

Since May, the rideshare company has required its drivers to take selfies to verify they are wearing a face covering before they are able to pick up any riders. Now the requirement extends to passengers, as well. Specifically, passengers who have been previously reported for not masking during the ride.

If a passenger’s ride goes smoothly, they will not have to take a ‘mask selfie’ the next time they request a ride. For both drivers and riders, repeated policy violations could lead to deactivation.

This feature is slated to roll out in the U.S. and Canada by the end of September.
