UPDATE: Two transported in LCC fire

Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the Lincoln Correctional Center on Van Dorn around 10 p.m. Monday night. They say it took 7-8 minutes to get through security at the center. Luckily, the fire was small, and staff were able to put it out before firefighters arrived. They say it started on a pile of books in a cell. The State Fire Marshall is investigating to determine what exactly happened.
LFR says two inmates were transported with non-life-threatening injuries. They’re being treated for smoke inhalation. Initial reports said a staff member was also treated, but LFR says they evaluated the staff who were present and everyone was okay.
At approximately 10:05 a fire was reported in a cell at the Lincoln Correctional Center. As a precaution, two inmates and one staff member are being treated for possible smoke inhalation. All inmates in the unit have been evacuated and are secure. There is no risk to public safety and all staff and inmates are safe.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the Lincoln Correctional Center shortly after 10 p.m. Monday evening. The facility, near southwest 27th and Van Dorn, might also be on lock down.
