Vehicle crashes into tree just feet from Nebraska State Capitol
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A vehicle was sent hurtling toward the Nebraska State Capitol Building on Monday afternoon.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Capitol Security responded to the crash on the building’s southwest side.
An SUV drove across the Capitol’s lawn before hitting a tree just feet from the historic building itself.
Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas said the driver, who was suffering from a mental health crisis, placed a heavy item on the gas pedal.
She was not in the vehicle when it crashed, the patrol said, so there were no injuries.
The driver was taken to a hospital for psychiatric treatment.
The patrol did not say if she had a motivation in the crash or if she would face charges.
The Legislature was not in session on Monday.
