Victim identified in Lincoln’s first homicide of the year

Police tell us it appears that a disagreement over property led to the 57-year-old's death

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Police have identified the victim in Thursday morning’s homicide as Henry Lee Jones.

So far three people have been arrested in connection to his death.

Derrick Pearson, 32, and Briana Jelinek, 31, were taken into custody on suspicion of manslaughter and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Micah Berggren, 25, was also arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

We’re told objects of interest were found at the scene, such as a bat or a pole.

An autopsy is set to begin this morning to determine an exact cause of death.

Police also tell us the victim and suspects knew each other and that this all appears to have started with a disagreement over property.

We learned that Jones was a resident at the property on 28th and F Street as well.

In regards to the arrests, authorities say the three suspects were taken into custody very quickly after officers arrived in the area.

A Lancaster County deputy saw them getting into vehicles nearby, and they didn’t get far before they were pulled over.

In addition to the new details surrounding Thursday’s response, police say the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office recommended the manslaughter charge which could change as more information becomes available.
