Virginia is now the 4th state to ban cosmetic animal testing
Before Virginia, California, Nevada, and Illinois began enforcing similar laws banning animal testing in cosmetics development

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- Virginia has become the fourth state in the USA to ban cosmetic animal testing and the selling of animal-tested cosmetics.
Governor Ralph Northam has signed the Humane Cosmetics Act, which prohibits those who manufacture cosmetic products from contracting or conducting their product testing to be done on animals in Commonwealth areas after January 1, 2022.
This law will also end the sale of cosmetics that have been tested on animals for profit.

The first state to ban animal-tested cosmetics was California in 2018, followed by Nevada and Illinois with similar laws being enforced in 2019.
The ban in Virginia is part of a bigger effort to end animal testing nationwide on a federal level.
Rep. Don Beyer, a representative from Northern Virginia, announced in a Tweet that he intends on reintroducing this issue into federal legislation.
Great news! Virginia leading the way in banning cosmetic testing on animals, one of a handful of states to do so. I will be reintroducing federal legislation, the Humane Cosmetics Act, to make this the standard across the country. Thank you @JenniferBoysko @KayeKory for leading! https://t.co/f3t3iib9Wf
