Warmest in 16 years; Hot and humid start to weekend
Heat and humidity will be the story for Friday through Sunday before a cold front brings relief for the start of next week.
Sunny skies today will allow temperatures to climb to the middle and upper 90°s. Forecasting a high of 98° in Lincoln Friday will be the warmest for August 5 in 16 years.
Dew point temperatures will climb in to the lower 70°s Friday. Combined with the air temperature, dew point temperatures will topple 100° Friday afternoon. Expect peak heat indices to range 100° to 105°.
We go even higher Saturday. The approaching cold front will send temperatures soaring ahead of it thanks to compressional warming. Highs will be around 100°.
It will be very humid with dew point temperatures in the lower to middle 70°s. This will send the heat index, or feels like temperature, to some of the highest levels of the summer. Peak heat indices should range between 102° and 112° Saturday afternoon.
