OCEAN CITY, Md. (KLKN) – It wasn’t quite the blast for a day at the beach they expected in Ocean City, Maryland, as fireworks accidentally went off.

A fireworks crew was setting up for tonight’s big show when something went wrong. Fireworks could be seen and heard for miles going off right near the beach.

One employee of the fireworks company was hurt, but no beachgoers were injured.

“Our Fire Marshals are on the scene and will investigate the cause of the unintentional discharge,” said Ocean City Fire Chief Richie Bowers. “Prior to the fireworks being off-loaded from the vehicle, Fire Marshals secure a safe zone around the fireworks and put other safety protocols in place. It is this very zone and safety protocols that kept anyone else from being injured,” he added.

The fireworks show has been canceled for the night.
