WATCH: Lincoln man charged, victim identified in O Street homicide
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Police announced the arrest of a Lincoln man on Monday in connection with Sunday morning’s homicide.
Early Sunday morning Robert Brannon, 33, of Omaha was shot and killed in the alley near 19th and O Streets.
Security video of the area shows Brannon and Jahhrasta Fletcher, 22, of Lincoln meeting in the alleyway, Lincoln Police Chief Teresa Ewins said.
Fletcher pulled out a firearm and shot at Brannon multiple times. When Brannon fell to the ground, “Mr. Fletcher stood over him and at close range fired once more at Mr. Brannon,” Ewins said.
Brannon suffered several wounds to his chest and head. He died at the scene after first responders were unsuccessful in attempts to save his life.
Shell casings from two different semi-automatic handguns were found at the scene. Only one gun was found when police arrived.
Fletcher was arrested near the intersection of 35th and Van Dorn Streets and jailed on Monday for first-degree murder. Out of an abundance of caution, Lincoln Southeast High School was in secure while police were in the area.
Police do not know if the two men knew each other prior to the shooting.
This year there have been more shooting incidents and victims of shootings in Lincoln than in the past 5 years.
Lincoln Police say the investigation is open and ongoing. Based on the security video, police say several people witnessed the incident and may have valuable information.
Anyone with information, who witnessed the shooting, or has photos and videos is asked to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
