WATCH: Tornado churns across interstate in Iowa

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Severe weather — even a tornado — surprised communities in northeast Iowa on Monday afternoon.

Families near Williamsburg, a city about 25 miles west of Iowa City, took cover in their basements.

Drivers on Interstate 80 dodged the funnel as it passed directly over the road.

While tornadoes are rare in the winter, but it is important to always be prepared.

Last week, twisters killed nine people in Alabama.
