LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) has experienced two water line breaks.

The first happened on Aug. 6, last Thursday. The break was near the facility’s library and was fixed on Friday.

On Friday, Aug. 7, a second break occurred near one of the housing units. NSP has nine housing units and four of them have been affected. The impact incarcerated individuals totals to 715.

According to NSP, repairs are underway and it is unknown when they will be done.

As of now, the water outage pushed NSP to create measures to keep services available for the affected individuals. This includes receiving 20,000 bottles of water, with more expected. It also includes portable toilets, schedules for showers and laundry being sent to other facilities.

NSP said the staff has worked hard to keep medical care, visiting, religious services and yard times available for the incarcerated individuals.
