Waverly’s season ends in loss to Bennington on the road

BENNINGTON, Neb. (KLKN) – The Waverly High School Vikings fell 23-7 on the road to the Bennington Badgers on Friday.

In the first quarter, Badgers quarterback Trey Bird handed the ball off to running back Nick Colvert, who rushed all the way for a touchdown on the second play of the game.

Later in the quarter, Waverly looked to respond and answered with a rushing touchdown by Evan Kastens from just outside the 20-yard line to tie things up at 7.

In the second quarter, Bennington earned its lead back thanks to another rushing touchdown by Colvert.

After halftime, the Badgers added to their lead with another passing touchdown by Bird, this time to Jonathan Williams.

Bennington would play keep away to earn the victory and eliminate Waverly from the playoffs.

The Badgers will face Gross Catholic in the championship next week.
