‘We welcome anyone’: Lincoln nonprofit seeking volunteers for community garden
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach’s Hope Garden is reopening and seeking passionate volunteers in Lincoln this spring.
Director of Hunger Relief and Volunteerism Victoria O’Neil said last season’s watering issues posed a challenge.
“We’re trying to obviously, do what’s best for the environment and not just run a sprinkler and a hose out here,” she said. “We’ll be turning over soil and putting down fresh mulch and just getting the buds all prepared for our upcoming growing season.”
This year the garden’s needs vary, and O’Neil encourages the community to help those who otherwise wouldn’t receive fresh produce.
“We welcome anyone to come,” she said. “You don’t have to be a master gardener to come, just the love of being outside and helping us.”
