What’s next for Nebraska’s Mickey Joseph?

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska has been imbued with a new sense of excitement after the university announced the hiring of Matt Rhule as head coach.

But what happens now with former interim head coach Mickey Joseph?

Earlier this season, his contract was restructured when he took on the position.

The new contract included a clause that would allow Joseph to return to his previous role as associate head coach if a new head coach was hired.

On Monday, Rhule was introduced at a press conference, where he was asked about Joseph.

“Mickey did a fantastic job, excellent recruiter, players love him,” he said. “So, I am anxious to sit down with him and the rest of the staff.”

Athletic Director Trev Alberts was also unsure of Joseph’s future with the program.

“Mickey is an outstanding coach,” he said. “He’s obviously got a bright future in the business, and we will see if it continues here. I have a tremendous respect for Coach Joseph and what he has done here, and so do our players.”

Many on social media have voiced their support for keeping Joseph.

Some 2023 commits, including three-star running back Arnold Barnes and four-star athlete Malachi Coleman, tweeted their support for Joseph.
