LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln airman got quite the surprise when he returned home from an overseas deployment.

Brad Siegersma landed at the Lincoln Airport Friday, after spending the past four-and-a-half months in the Middle East working in explosive ordinance disposal for the Nebraska National Guard.

But the biggest shock he felt came when he got off the plane and was greeted by his wife, Cassandra, who was wearing a Tyrannosaurus rex costume.

“A lot of laughter. I couldn’t help it. She was just cracking up,” he said. “The last thing you expect is to see a large inflatable dinosaur running up to come meet you when you’re just getting off a flight like that.”

Siegersma says his wife likes to tease him, and this wasn’t the first time she’s played a prank on him in public. He said she once gave him a singing telegram in the middle of a restaurant in Japan.

“It was a genuine surprise,” Siegersma said. “But, knowing her, in retrospect, I should have been expecting it.”

Siegersma’s fellow Guardsmen were just as surprised as he was.

“She had just come from work and so she shows up – she was already in her costume by the time she entered the airport,” he said. “Needless to say they were a bit shocked as well.”

Siegersma says the stunt has drawn a lot of positive feedback from friends and family.

He says he’s already plotting his “payback.”

“I’ve got a few ideas,” he said. “I know where she works and I’m sure a few of her coworkers would be more than willing participants in my plan of revenge.”
