Wilber-Clatonia falls to Milford in a nailbiter

WILBER, Neb. (KLKN) – The Wolverines were looking to keep their win streak alive against one-win Milford at home, but they couldn’t squeak out a victory.

They lost 27-26 in a heartbreaker.

It was a back-and-forth battle, with the Wolverines striking first.

Quarterback Cole Rosentreader scrambled to the outside and found Cooper Palmer on the sideline.

Palmer sprinted all the way down to the end zone but was ruled out of bounds at the 1-yard line.

But Wilber-Clatonia would score on the next play, making it 7-0 Wolverines.

In the second quarter, Milford’s Orlando Rakow took a handoff and broke through the defense, going all the way to the end zone untouched.

That made it a 7-7 ballgame.

Later in the second quarter, the Wolverines were up 14-7, but Milford had other plans on the 5-yard line.

Rakow again got the ball and plowed into the end zone to tie the game up.

The hard-fought battle ended as close as could be with Milford earning a 1-point victory.
