Winds continue overnight and for first half of Friday

Extremely high winds have battered the Cornhusker State all day Thursday.  While winds will remain high overnight, conditions should improve through the day Friday.

Peak wind gusts reached over 60 mph throughout the day Thursday.  The highest recorded gust coming from Broken Bow.  72 mph!  In the Lincoln area winds were not as strong.  The Lincoln airport reported a peak gust of 56 mph.

Winds will continue to gust to 40 mph Thursday night in to Friday morning.  Expect winds to gust out of the northwest, shifting to the north, to 35 mph Friday morning.  Winds should begin to ease by Friday afternoon.

The sun also returns for Friday.  There remains some question as to how quickly clouds will depart – from west to east – during the morning, but most of the area should be sunny by afternoon.  Temperatures will respond by climbing in to the lower to middle 50°s.

Clear skies Friday night in to Saturday morning, along with a light wind, will allow temperatures to drop.  It will be cold Saturday morning with lows in the middle 20°s.  Temperatures will rebound for the afternoon with highs topping out in the lower to middle 60°s.  Keep in mind, highs will occur between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday.  During the Huskers’ Spring Game temperatures will likely be in the 50°s to near 60°.
