Woman arrested after setting fire near gas pump, Lincoln Police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman was arrested after starting a fire at a gas station near 25th and O Streets on Tuesday, Lincoln Police say.

Around 10:20 p.m., police went to an EZ GO after 911 callers reported seeing a woman set a fire near a gas pump.

Witnesses told police that the woman got back in her car and left the area after lighting the fire, police say.

A witness extinguished the fire before calling the police.

Moments later, several people yelled for help from officers in the area after stopping the woman’s vehicle about one block away from the gas station.

Sgt. Christopher Vollmer says the department thinks Amelia Perez, 51, pumped a small amount of gas on the ground and then ignited it.

Perez was arrested on suspicion of third-degree arson.

Damage to the gas pumps is estimated to be less than $500.
