Woman loses $100,000 in social media scam, Lincoln Police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 64-year-old woman lost over $100,000 after beginning a relationship with a stranger she met through social media, Lincoln Police say.

Officers began an investigation into the social media scam on Monday.

About 10 months ago, the victim had friended a stranger on a social media app, according to Lincoln Police.

During this relationship, the victim sent over $100,000 to the stranger.  A family member contacted the police after they found out about the relationship.

The investigation is currently ongoing, Lincoln Police say.
