ELKHORN, Neb. (KLKN) — According to the affidavit, the Nebraska Human Society (NHS) seized a total 79 animals from a property in Elkhorn. The report explained the mistreatment and unacceptable care of the animals.

The tenant of the property, Nicholas Sakis, was approached after a report of animal cruelty was given to NHS.

The caller reported on June 18. The person who reported provided pictures to the NHS from Aug. 2025 to the present. The pictures showed multiple animals including emus, goats, cats, dogs, chickens, a zebra and more. They showed dead chickens littered throughout the property, along with a dead pig and emu. According to the report, there was a dog who appeared to have a prolapsed uterus while staying in the dog pen that was ‘filled with so much feces that they could not avoid it’.

The caller said an alpaca and its baby had died due to lack of care and had been thrown into a burn pit.

According to the report, Omaha Police Department (OPD) and NHS officers went to the property on July 2.

Sakis refused to allow NHS or OPD officers to search the rest of the property. When asked for proof of medical care for the Dalmatian with the prolapsed uterus, Sakis stated he took “Mini” to Southpaw Vet Clinic. An officer called Southpaw, who confirmed Sakis did bring “Mini” for the prolapsed uterus but refused any medical treatment.

On July 9, a search warrant was served and the animals were taken.

The animals seized included emus, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, a mini pony, mini donkeys, alpacas, silkie chickens, dalmatians, German shepherds, cats, and a zebra.
