9-11 Awareness Project

It's an issue that some say has fallen by the wayside in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.

Long term health effects on those who helped save lives on 9-11.  A representative of something called the New York rescue workers Detoxification Project was in Lincoln.

The non-profit organization is raising money to provide what they call a detoxification treatment for rescue workers of 9-11.

Many of the workers have suffered effects after breathing in toxic chemicals from the smoke filled air and dust that lingered in ground zero for months.

The detoxification project hopes to raise enough money so every worker who has been affected, can be treated.

The organization says around 700 rescue workers have been treated and around 5 million dollars has been raised. The project isn't without controversy, Actor Tom Cruise is co-founder of the project, and has raised around 1 million dollars toward the efforts.

The detoxification program was developed by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the Church of Scientology.
