LPS reports highest weekly total of COVID-19 cases
The highly infectious variant omicron is having serious effects in Lincoln Public Schools

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Public Schools has reported their highest COVID-19 case numbers since the start of the academic year. Since Sunday, LPS has had 684 cases, including 628 in students.
Omicron has certainly arrived in Nebraska and has had a significant impact already. Just two weeks ago, LPS had 50 confirmed positive cases while students were on winter break. The previous high weekly total was 583 case reported last week.
The number of staff and students who are currently isolating is even more staggering. LPS is missing 292 staff members, as well as 2,101 students. That tops last week’s numbers by more than 500, and the week isn’t even over yet.
In good news, positive staff cases decreased this week. Last week, there were 145 staff with COVID. So far this week, there have only been 56.
Experts hope this recent spike will soon see an end. You can find updated LPS information every day here.
