LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gov. Pete Ricketts did not comment on a question from the Nebraska Examiner when they asked if he agreed that the U.S. Capitol riot of Jan. 6 was “legitimate political discourse.”

The Republican National Committee is facing some backlash after they censured Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois for participating in the Jan. 6 Select Committee.  The RNC said the Republican representatives shouldn’t have been “participating in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.”  This wording received negative reactions from people on all sides of the political spectrum.

The Nebraska Examiner reached out to Gov. Pete Ricketts to get his take on the situation.  According to the media outlet, Ricketts did not address the censure of the representatives or the RNC’s wording.

“It’s a shame when anyone uses a peaceful protest as an opportunity to riot, cause destruction and bring harm to others,” a Ricketts’ spokeswoman told the Nebraska Examiner. “It’s unacceptable, and we should prosecute those who break the law and hold them accountable.”
