UNL’s day of giving is back: Glow Big Red 2022
The amount of money raised has gone up over the years, and this year could be the biggest fundraiser yet.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – At noon on Wednesday, February 16, a full 24 hours of giving kicks off. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glow Big Red fundraiser is entering its fourth year, and organizers hope this will be the best year yet.
Director Kristi Pease says, “We’re hoping to get 4500 gifts. Last year we raised a little over $430,000 and so f course we’re hoping to beat that goal this year.”
The money goes all over the campus, to the different colleges, libraries, and notably, the students. Kabin Thomas is one of those who’s benefitted from a Glow Big Red gift. Medical issues sidelined his studies and his income, nearly forcing him to abandon his doctoral studies.
“Because of the program I was able to pay for this upcoming semester, and this has been a lifesaver for me”, he says. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t be in school.”
Kabin never gave up, which is another reason he’s still here. If he had given up, he’d never have been able to know about or benefit from Glow Big Red.
“The money will find a way if you stay dedicated to the dream that you have.” Kabin further stresses his point: “The money will show up somehow, some way, and I’m proof of that, so I feel very fortunate.”
That brings us to the point where more of that money can be raised, to help more students to follow their dreams.
To support the effort, simply check out GlowBigRed.unl.edu to make a donation. An added bonus: if you make donations totaling $60 or more, you’ll get a UNL blanket. Of course, the real reward is seeing the success stories on campus.
