A bitterly cold Wednesday; Snow showers possible Thursday

It is a bitterly cold start to Wednesday across southeast Nebraska! A wind chill advisory is in place for everyone, where wind chills 20-30° below zero are possible on Wednesday morning.

You’ll want all of the winter gear on Wednesday as it will be cold all morning and afternoon. As temperatures warm, there will still be a wind chill factor. Wind chills will likely be near or slightly above the 0° mark on Wednesday afternoon.

Actual air temperatures will likely top out in the middle to upper teens. Despite some morning clouds, I think there’s the opportunity to see some afternoon sun as a deck of clouds tries to lift north. Those north of the capital city may find themselves stuck under clouds all day long.

The arctic air mass sticks around into Thursday. Clouds will once again envelop the area, and we are looking at the chance for a few snow showers. These could start near the Tri-Cities and communities like Greeley, Ord, Albion, and Neligh as early as Thursday morning. Lincoln will likely have to wait until the late morning or afternoon until any snow showers begin.

These snow showers should be very light in nature, and there may be some lulls in the snowfall at times. We are battling dry air again with this system, meaning that accumulations will be on the lighter side. Most are looking at accumulations under 1″, with higher accumulations possible in northern/central Nebraska. Overall, this is not looking like an impactful event.
