Snow showers possible; Very little accumulations
While snow showers were ongoing across portions of northwest and north-central Nebraska on Thursday morning, southeast Nebraska remained dry. However, some of the moisture that produced those snow showers is headed our way.
Many woke up to clouds on Thursday morning, and those will be with us for most of Thursday. As the day progresses, the chance to see snow showers starts to increase. It’s another cold day, we’re forecasting a high near 16° in Lincoln.
The chance to see snow showers starts to increase after 9AM in Lincoln. I think the best chance will be on Thursday afternoon, but we can’t rule out snow showers in the late morning hours depending on the timing of the system.
Know that these are just a few, isolated, quick-hitting snow showers, and there will be points in the day where flakes are not falling. The system isn’t going to drop a lot of moisture. We’re looking at under 0.5″ at best for most of southeast Nebraska. A few “unlucky” spots may be able to dodge snow showers completely.
Any snow showers will depart late Thursday afternoon, and skies will clear overnight and into Friday morning. We’re forecasting a low near -3° in Lincoln on Friday morning.
Starting Friday, we will dive headfirst into a warmup that will make the air feel more like spring. That will especially be the case by the end of the weekend and the start of next week. The start of meteorological spring is next Tuesday.
