UNL students celebrate 150 years by planting 150 trees

University of Nebraska-Lincoln students gathered on the west side of the Plant Sciences Hall Thursday evening to plant trees in honor the university’s 150th year anniversary.
“I’m very excited to plant these trees,” Logan O’kief, a junior studying Turf Grass Management, said. “I’m just glad we get the opportunity to plant these trees for our university.”
The goal is to plant 150 trees in order to celebrate UNL’s 150th anniversary this year.
Although this specific class only planted two trees this afternoon, the project is almost two-thirds complete with only 50 more trees to go.
Kim Todd, an Assoc. Prof. of Agronomy and Horticulture, says she is proud of her students.
“You know to do these kinds of projects with students is really what student learning is about,” Todd said. “I mean how can you not be proud of students and they’re so excited!”
The trees came from an anonymous donor to the university foundation.
Students hope to plant the last 50 trees next Friday.
