LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Last week, Nebraska State Patrol troopers helped to keep roads safe as many traveled for state basketball.

Troopers patrolled high-traffic roads across the state to help teams and fans travel safely, NSP said.

Troopers performed 278 motorist assists across Nebraska last week.

“This was a week like we’ve never seen for state basketball,” said Col. John Bolduc, superintendent of the patrol.

Troopers arrested 12 people on suspicion of driving under the influence, NSP said.  They also issued 273 citations for speeding, nine for not wearing a seat belt, two for improper child restraint, 10 for having an open alcohol container, four for being a minor in possession of alcohol, 30 for driving under suspension and 134 for not having proof of insurance.

The extra enforcement was possible because of a $15,635 grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office.

Troopers were also able to provide seat belt and safe-driving demonstrations to state basketball fans at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
