Three anti-abortion bills in Nebraska fail to advance out of committee

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Three abortion bills in the Nebraska Legislature stalled in the Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
The three bills — LB 781, LB 933 and LB 1086 — were all referred. This means that the bills are not necessarily dead, but they won’t be advancing to the next stage.
LB 781, introduced by Sen. Julie Slama, would make abortions illegal in Nebraska after a heartbeat can be detected. A heartbeat is typically detected around six weeks of pregnancy.
LB 933, introduced by Sen. Joni Albrecht, would go a step further and ban all abortions in the state except to save the mother’s life in a medical emergency.
LB 1086, introduced by Sen. Suzanne Geist, would provide safety regulations of chemical abortion (sometimes called “medication” or “medical” abortion) procedures to protect women from serious adverse health consequences.
