LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – It has been nearly two months since K9 Nitro II was killed in York County after a suspect stole a police vehicle and drove it into a moving train. But Saturday, a 9-year-old girl ran one mile in honor of the canine in Las Vegas.

Theresa Ann is with Running 4 Heroes, an organization that honors fallen law enforcement and K9s in the line of duty.

The non-profit said they were in Nebraska just days before the incident took place giving free safety gear to K9s throughout the state.

Theresa will be forwarding a handwritten note along with a blue line flag to the handler of the York County Sheriff’s Office.
